CD and Film Reviews
The AHE, boosted to 25-strong, are in top form for the symphony, from its grand opening brassy chords to the joyful interplay of woodwinds and strings in the final movement. Helyard’s liner notes are the icing on a very tasty cake.
This is a disc that serves as an eloquent reminder that there are few more rewarding experiences than an hour or so spent in Haydn’s company.

“ the [AHE] has gone a step further by making a series of one-hour films featuring real time performance interspersed with contributions from some of Australia’s film-makers. …The dreamchild of Artistic Director Skye McIntosh… a concert of Vivaldi and Hasse featuring soprano Celeste Lazarenko and flutist Melissa Farrow.
Filmed in wide screen by Oliver Miller and Wooden Picket Productions in Sydney’s St Stephen’s Church, Newtown, and Camperdown Cemetery,…beautifully captured by director of photography David Tran.
The performances are gorgeous…”
