ABOUT THIS EVENT
Haydn In London - With Andrew Ford
18th Century Unpacked with the Australian Haydn Ensemble
at the State Library of NSW
Join the Australian Haydn Ensemble (AHE) for the fourth instalment of our dynamic new series of interactive lecture-recitals, 18th Century Unpacked — designed to deepen your connection with our mainstage touring programs.
In Haydn in London, we delve into one of the most remarkable chapters of the composer’s life — his celebrated visits to London in the 1790s. These were years of artistic triumph, creative freedom, and international fame. Haydn’s music dazzled audiences and shaped the future of the symphony.
Guiding us through this fascinating period is special guest presenter Andrew Ford, acclaimed composer, broadcaster, and host of ABC Radio National’s The Music Show. With his trademark insight and wit, Andrew unpacks the cultural and musical significance of Haydn’s time in England.
The program features live performances by the AHE of selections from Johann Peter Salomon’s chamber arrangements of Haydn’s London Symphonies — intimate reimaginings of orchestral masterpieces that bring the grandeur of the concert hall into the salon.
Join us for this lively and illuminating hour in the beautiful surrounds of the Friends Room at the State Library of New South Wales — a must for music lovers and history buffs alike.
